...""If you go back to FTA and then NAFTA," Drummond said, "the Number 1 premise behind those from a Canadian perspective was a message to the world: `Locate in Canada and you have free unfettered access to the wealthiest market in the world.'
"That was true to some extent, but you've had two irritations. One, you don't have a common currency, so you have exchange rate risk if you're operating in Canada. The second is the border difficulties.
"Clearly, a common currency, or at least a linked currency, would address one of those two," Drummond said.
Tal argued "the costs of a single currency and the loss of monetary policy independence outweigh the benefits."......

Some dream
..."There was no talk about the antiwar movement at MLK celebrations of "I Have a Dream." The dream is probably going to be the communist utopia of the North American Union with a new parliamentary system, the Mexican and Canadian borders dropped with all three countries merging into one with a new money (the "Amero") to be in effect by 2010. Social Security benefits will then be expanded and given to Mexican and Canadian citizens. "

The truth about conspiracy theories
..."and certainly not, there are no plans to throw out the dollar for a common North American currency called the Amero. The SPP, says the "Myths and Facts" section of the SPP web site (put there to calmly put down those darn conspiracy theorist) is not an agreement nor is it a treaty, In fact, no agreement was ever signed," the document proudly states."....

There Isn't Going to Be a North American Union
.."However, not one of the advocates of this conspiracy theory mentioned above has ever produced one single solitary piece of evidence that shows anyone in the Bush Administration is working on an “Amero” or actually merging the U.S. into Canada or Mexico, because there is no such evidence. In fact, that's one of the most striking things about this conspiracy: it's supposedly a grandiose plot that the Bush Administration is engaged in, yet no one from the Bush Administration is ever tied to any of the "evidence," such as it is, that's offered.

America’s Border War
..."While there are those who label such observations the fanciful wanderings of conspiratorial minds, the evidence is out there for anyone willing to look. One outcome foreseen by the plan for a North American Union – a shared currency called the “Amero” – seems already to be in the works. This week’s news that the heavily Hispanic customer base of the Dallas-based Pizza Patrón chain will now be able to make purchases using Mexican pesos was prescient in this regard. Seeing as American dollars have long been more valuable in Mexico than pesos, the ascendance of the “Amero” may just be a matter of time."...

North American Union Isn't Going Away
..."In 1999, 11 European countries decided to phase out their currencies in favor of the Euro by 2002. Those of us writing out against a North American Union and the Amero want to make sure the United States does not go through the same stealth process, a methodology even the editor of the Wall Street Journal endorsed in 2001. I have already advanced from NAFTA to the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America. What’s next?"....

Mexican pesos to be accepted currency at American eateries
..."Starting this week, Pizza Patrón outlets, which caters heavily to Mexicans, will offer the alternative form of payment.
"We're trying to reach out to our core customer," Antonio Swad, president of Pizza Patrón Inc., told the Dallas Morning News.
"We know they come back [from Mexico] and have pesos left over. We want to be a convenient place for them to spend their pesos."
It's believed no other food chain operating so far from the Mexican border is allowing customers to pay with foreign currency. "....
